Hi lovely,
How have you been? The sun is at its peak in June, and life lately is about a lot of water in and out of the body. Also, the Common cold sucks! Isn’t it supposed to be seasonal?
Won’t crib about writing after so long here because it is what it is. I am lazy, and now everyone knows it.
This little beauty welcomed me home with its charming hue.
They say your reality is the things you do when no one is watching you (they must be wise or simply judgemental). But if it were true, then we would all have been singers, writers, actors, dancers, fighters, VJs or therapists at some point in our lives. When we are alone, we can be whoever we want to be. When no one is watching, the world is a big stage that only you own.
For the past few days, I was alone for a significant part of the day, and I discovered a new side of me. I found that when I am alone, all I think of is food. And ways to make it. Never have I known that I could spend my whole day chopping vegetables and doing tadka (but then, when no one is watching, the world is a big stage that only you own).
Speaking of cooking, it has therapeutic effects. I am astonished to realise how it activates all our senses. The smell of masala cooking. The sight of garlic and onions changing their colour. The sound of cumin seeds when put in the oil. The anticipation of putting all the ingredients together on time and the delight of making something edible do wonders. However basic cooking seems, it is not. Whoever says cooking is art has my heart. Moreover, it brings you relief that your children won’t sleep hungry just because their mother can’t cook.
Being alone! It’s fascinating how being alone can reveal parts of you that are unknown, even to you. We can’t be alone all the time. We shouldn’t be alone all the time. But, whenever we are, I hope we find ourselves in the best company possible. Irrespective of how many companions we surround ourselves with, in the end, it’s us and our insight that will sleep together at night. Isn’t it?
So, even for an hour or more, if you are left alone or want to be alone. Just grab the centre of the stage and rock it however you like. Who knows what painter, philosopher, dancer, singer, actor and Masterchef you are hiding inside?
See you soon with more wonderings. Until then, stay hydrated and updated (because it rhymes)
